Hamburg shooting: All You Need To Know

Seven people were slain in a mass shooting on Thursday at a Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in Hamburg, Germany. The nation’s leader called the incident a “brutal act of violence.”

In their most recent statement, the city’s police said: “Eight persons are dead, including the alleged offender.

Hamburg shooting: All You Need To Know

The religious community is profoundly pained by the awful attack on its members at the Kingdom Hall in Hamburg following a religious service, the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Germany said in a statement.

When the killings in the northern German city began at 9 p.m. local time (3 p.m. ET), police were unaware of the potential number of shooters.

Later police updates, however, indicated that there was just one assailant, who is thought to have passed away at the scene.

After several hours of searching the area for evidence and suspects, Hamburg police posted their most recent report on Twitter: “At present, we believe there is one perpetrator.”

“All police measures in the vicinity are being successively discontinued. The investigation into the circumstances of the crime continues.”

Chancellor Scholz led politicians in condemning the killing spree in the German city in the north.

“Several members of a Jehovah community fell victim to a brutal act of violence last night. My thoughts are with them and their loved ones,” he wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, a police official stated that investigators were investigating whether the shooter was one of the numerous victims discovered at the scene.

According to Hamburg police spokesman Holger Vehren, when police arrived at the scene of the call, they discovered dead and injured persons on the ground level where an event occurred.

When the police entered the building, they heard a shot on the top level, where they discovered a body.

Many armed police officers were seen inside and around the Kingdom Hall in video from the site on Thursday night as a helicopter buzzed overhead. At one time, a bomb-disposal squad was sent out.

Police had earlier issued a warning about “high risk” in the region, and the area around the place of worship was blocked off, the spokeswoman added. Locals were advised to stay inside.

Residents in the area were advised to stay inside.

There is “no verifiable information on the motive for the crime,” police said on Twitter as they begged people not to post any unconfirmed conclusions.

From Hamburg’s religious communities, messages of support were also received.

“The news of this bloody crime in Hamburg-Alsterdorf is shocking and leaves me speechless… My deepest sympathy goes to the relatives of the victims,” Father Sascha-Philipp Geissler, a senior member of Hamburg’s Catholic diocese, said in a statement.

Even though they are less common than in the US, shootings still happen occasionally in Germany.

At Heidelberg University in southwestern Germany, a man opened fire on students in a lecture hall in January 2022, leaving at least one person dead.

A large-scale shooting at two shisha bars in Hanau claimed multiple lives in 2020.

In Fremont, Wisconsin, David Metzig was well-known for being a co-owner of the Union Star Cheese Factory. Murdaugh Murders: Here Is What You Need To Know About It

Published

Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal, a new true crime documentary series on Netflix, tells the tale of the affluent South Carolina family, the Murdaughs. In Murdaugh Murders, the family of litigators is investigated for several incidents, including a fatal boating accident and the circumstances leading up to the deaths of matriarch Margaret “Maggie” Murdaugh and her son Paul in the summer of 2021.

Murdaugh Murders: Here Is What You Need To Know About It

The trial of Alex Murdaugh, who is accused of killing Maggie and Paul but has maintained his innocence and entered a not-guilty plea, is also partially covered in the television show. A fourth member of the Murdaugh family, Maggie and Alex’s other son Buster, is also included in the documentary.

Before killing his mother and brother, Richard Alex Murdaugh, sometimes known as Buster, was employed by his father’s law firm and was enrolled in law school at the University of South Carolina, which was somewhat of a family tradition. He was later dismissed, nonetheless, due to a plagiarism-related incident.

As reported by the local publication, Buster’s family reportedly paid $60,000 to ensure he would be readmitted to the college to finish his legal degree. But he hasn’t started studying again yet. Butch Bowers, the Murdaugh’s attorney, stated that the client had temporarily shelved his plans to attend law school. “There is no plan for him to enter school in the fall or in the spring.”

Buster resides in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, with his partner, attorney Brooklynn White. What he does for a living is unknown. He testified as a first witness for the defence in his father’s trial in February of this year, which means he spoke on his father’s behalf. In his testimony, he stated that Alex was “heartbroken” over the deaths of Maggie and Paul.

Buster has been present for the entire trial of his father, and according to Law & Crime, Buster has reportedly been rattled and buried his head in his hands throughout the proceedings. At the same time, the lawyers recount the graphic details of the double homicide. On March 2, Buster’s father was found guilty of both killings, and on March 3, the judge sentenced his father to two consecutive life terms in prison.

Alex Murdaugh claims that when he got home on June 7, 2021, he saw Maggie and Paul shot to death close to the dog kennels on their property. He dialled both 911 and Buster.

“He sounded odd, and then he told me that my mom and my brother had been shot,” Buster said during the trial. By his testimony, Buster was at his girlfriend’s home in Rock Hill, South Carolina, more than 200 miles away, when the murders occurred. He went straight to the Murdaugh house after learning what had happened.

Paul Grant Cause of Death: Here Is What You Need To Know

A well-known Star Wars Ewok, Paul Grant, whose life spiralled out of control, passed away at 56.

Paul Grant Cause of Death: Here Is What You Need To Know

Police discovered Paul Grant, who co-starred with Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill in the science fiction classic Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, unconscious outside King’s Cross station in London on Thursday.

The 132cm actor, who played a goblin in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, fell and was taken to the hospital, but doctors reportedly ruled him brain dead.

Paul’s family informed the media that his life support system tragically shut off on Sunday.

Sophie Jayne Grant, a 28-year-old Peterborough resident, said:

“I’m devastated.

“My dad was a legend in so many ways.

“He always brought a smile and laughter to everyone’s face.

“He would do anything for anyone and was a massive Arsenal fan.

“He was an actor, father and grandad.

“He loved his daughters and son and his girlfriend Maria very much, as well as her kids, who were like stepchildren to him.

“My dad I love you so much sleep tight.”

Paul’s girlfriend Maria Dwyer, 64, added: “Paul was the love of my life. The funniest man I know. He made my life complete. Life is never going to be the same without him.”

Paul admitted to a reporter that he had wasted his film money on drugs and drink when he was photographed in 2014 sniffing white powder.

Paul, who is divorced and has three children—Sophie, Nicole, and Robbie—with his ex-wife Janet Crowson, previously described how his life had reached its lowest point due to the breakdown of his marriage.

A family friend told sources:

“He was a lovely bloke.

“He’s always battled drugs and alcohol addiction but was a talented actor.

“He called himself the ‘King of the Dwarfs’. It’s so sad.”

His prior work includes the Val Kilmer-starring 1998 film Willow, the Tom Cruise film Legend from 1985, the David Bowie-starring Labyrinth from 1986, and the Deuce Bigalow 2 film.

He also portrayed characters like the diminutive, endearing Ewoks who dwelt on Endor’s forest moon.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 2.08 pm on Thursday, 16 March, to reports of an incident at St Pancras Station, Euston Road.

“We sent an ambulance crew and a medic in a response car. We treated a man at the scene and took him to hospital as a priority.”
