Social Security Schedule: When Are Your COLA Checks Coming In 2022?

The Social Security Administration is all set to start sending out social security checks to millions of distressed Americans. But when exactly are you going to receive your checks in 2022? That’s what the SSA (short for Social Security Administration) has answered in the schedule is released for 2022.

SSA releases payment schedule

The SSA has released the schedule it will follow for sending out your Social security entitlements for 2022. What’s even livelier is that these payments would be the first of many to include the new 5.9% cost of living adjustment (COLA) payments. The adjustments are made to give relief to people facing the onslaught of increasing living costs due to rising inflation.

What’s your birth date?

SSA will be looking up your birth date to schedule your payments. Anyone born between the 1st of a month to its 10th (included), will receive their benefits on the second Wednesday of each month. For Jan 2022, the first payment goes out on the first Wednesday of Jan, i.e. January 12th.

For people born between the 11th of a month to the 20th of a month, the benefits will be handed out on the third Wednesday of each month. For January 2022, the date corresponding to the second Wednesday is January 19.

And if your date of birth lies anywhere from the 21st of a month to its 31st, you will get the benefits on the 4th of that month. So, for the January of 2022, such people will receive their money on Jan 26.

Inflation soaring at 6.2%

This is a historical move as it includes the largest COLA update in almost four decades. The reason, however, is to help Americans successfully ride the tide of inflation at 6.2% (for the past 12 months), which might further increase if Omicron hits supply chains.

Those who believe that social security is not enough to take care of their needs can apply for Social Security Supplement Income. If eligible and approved, it can give them a supplemental income in addition to their social security.

Here’s how you can use the supplemental income to boost your social security check.
