Brian Laundrie Update: Human Remains Found In Florida Park During Search For Gabby Petito’s Fiancé

Human remains were found in a forested area in Florida on Wednesday, where the FBI and other agencies have been searching for Brian Laundrie, a person of interest in the murder of his fiancée Gabby Petito.

According to authorities, items belonging to Laundrie, 23, were also found at Myakkahatchee Creek environmental park, NBC News reported. Laundrie’s parents had earlier told detectives that he had gone camping at the Carlton Reserve, a vast wilderness area near Sarasota, on Sept. 14. They reported him missing on Sept. 17 and later joined the authorities in the search of him.

The remains have not been identified as yet, the FBI said. Searchers came across the items as they searched for clues in the death of Petitio, whose body was found in late September in Wyoming. The park is near Carlton Reserve where the FBI had been searching for Laundrie.

Sarasota county medical examiner’s office acknowledged that officials were called to the park after search teams stumbled upon the items.

According to police, Laundrie is a suspect in the killing of Petitio, who was reported missing by her parents on Sept. 11. The young YouTuber and Laundrie were on a cross-country road trip heading west, but Petito never returned alive from the trip. Laundrie later returned to his parents’ home in Florida alone.

Search Lasted Days

After he disappeared, teams from the FBI and local law enforcement spent days searching for Laundrie in Carlton Reserve using sniffer dogs, drones, and underwater equipment.

In late Sept., Laundrie was charged with unauthorized use of Petito’s debit card.

A federal grand jury indicted him for using Petito’s Capital One Bank Card and personal identification number to illegally withdraw more than $1,000 while Petito was still missing.

Earlier, many internet users claimed Laundrie was hiding in the backyard of his parents’ home in North Port under a flower bed.

The conspiracy theory came to light after a video appeared to show a hand poking out of the soil as his mother, Roberta Laundrie, tended to a flower bed.

Some netizens claimed that there was the likelihood of a bunker in the family’s backyard.
