Effect of New Voting Rights Bill to Texas
Even after getting a 50-50 split vote, Democrats are still finding ways to push for their federal reform on elections and voting.
On Tuesday, a new bill is on the way to be pushed more, which could greatly affect Texas and other nearing counties and states. The bill introduces changes on;
- Texas methodology on registering to vote
- In-person and drop off ballots
- Voting by mail
What are the provisions in the New Bill?
The proposed name of the bill is the Freedom to Vote Act. Democrats proposed the bill in an attempt to revolutionize the old ways of voting in various states. The provisions are the following;
– Making Election Day a public holiday
– All states be offered real-time and automatic online voter registration
– Mandated to bring a broad set of identification cards and documents, be in digital or physical form
How is this different from the current Texas method of voter registration? To this date, you cannot apply online to register to vote. All registrations must be mailed and must be done thirty days before an election for voter eligibility.

The New Bill states that voters can show more forms of ID, unlike in the current one, you only need to bring one of the seven acceptable IDs in Texas. This bill’s accessibility to drop boxes for voter ballots is better than Abbott’s policy of limiting Texas counties to only one drop-off location for voters.
According to Texas House Representative Turner, “Texas House Democrats have been calling on Congress to take decisive action to protect voters from the GOP’s attacks on our democracy. With the passage of Senate Bill 1 in Texas, we need the U.S. Senate to act more than ever before.”
The statement was issued due to Abbott’s massive efforts in passing Senate Bill 1, which challenges voting rules and initiatives implemented in the Democrat-dominated Harris country. Abbott highly challenges the new bill.

It has been confirmed that the body of former British rugby league player Bryn Hargreaves, who vanished more than a year ago, was discovered close to his home.
On January 16, 2022, Mr Hargreaves—who was 36 then—was reported missing after failing to show up for work in West Virginia, the US.
His disappearance prompted a “big scale” search of the Cheat Lake area “over a several month period,” according to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, but it was unsuccessful.
But on February 26, in the Cheat Lake region of Monongalia County, West Virginia, Mr Hargreaves’ bones were discovered in a wooded area between South Peirpont Road and The Hannalei Subdivision. His residence and last known location are just a few yards away at the Monongalia County Whisper Creek Apartment Complex off South Pierpont Road.
Tuesday, Maria Andrews, the player’s mother, shared a photo on Facebook with the comment: “heartbroken xxx”, “My Son. I closed my eyes but for a moment and suddenly a man stood where my boy used to be. I may not be able to carry you now in my arms, but I will always carry you in my heart. You have given me so many reasons to be proud of the man you have become, but the proudest moment for me is telling others that you are My Son. I LOVE YOU NOW AND FOREVER.”
The Sheriff’s Office stated on its Facebook page that it is awaiting the results of the autopsy before determining the cause and manner of death.
Fourteen months after he was last seen, Mr Hargreaves’ older brother, Gareth Hargreaves, posted on Facebook to inform of the former player’s death.
“RIP Bryn Hargreaves,” the post began. “With incredible sadness, I can confirm after 14 months we have finally found Bryn. We still do not know the cause of death or what actually happened on 3/1/22. Thanks to all those that have helped in the search. We would appreciate a little space and will keep you updated when we have any further information x.”
When police officers got to the rugby player’s apartment in Morgantown, West Virginia, after receiving a missing person call on January 16, 2017, they discovered the door was unlocked, and the shower was running. The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office searched the region around Cheat Lake with sniffer dogs but could not locate him.
Throughout the past year, Mr Hargreaves has been the subject of numerous futile attempts to locate him. To gather money for a private investigator to take on the duty of finding him, his family set up a GoFundMe page.
Mr Hargreaves, raised in Wigan, fulfilled a childhood fantasy by joining the Warriors in the Super League. Before moving to the United States to work in the oil and gas industry ten years ago, soon after his last club, the Bradford Bulls, went out of business, he also played for St Helens, where he won the 2008 Challenge Cup.
Before, he and his American wife Amy, whom he met in Mexico, resided in Pittsburgh. They started living separately after four years and eventually got divorced.
When Hargreaves vanished, his family speculated that he might have been kidnapped.

Willis Reed, the illustrious centre for the New York Knicks, passed away at 80. His dramatic entrance onto the Madison Square Garden court before Game 7 of the 1970 NBA Finals inspired the team to win its first championship.
The National Basketball Retired Players Association reported Reed’s passing. Although no specific cause of death was given, it was well-known that Reed had been unwell for some time.

“As a league MVP, two-time NBA Finals MVP and member of the NBA’s 50th and 75th Anniversary Teams, Willis was a decorated player who took great pride in his consistency. Following his playing career, Willis mentored the next generation as a coach, team executive and proud HBCU alumnus. We send our deepest condolences to Willis’ wife, Gale, his family, and many friends and fans.”
Reed’s incredible career, which included two NBA championships, two MVP awards in the NBA Finals, and seven appearances in the All-Star Game, is best known for the memorable 1969–70 season. He was the first player to win the NBA Finals MVP title, the All-Star Game MVP, and the regular season MVP in the same year.
The moment that would go down in history was him entering the arena for Game 7 of the 1970 Finals after missing Game 6 due to a thigh injury he sustained in Game 5, which left the Knicks unable to counteract Wilt Chamberlain of the Lakers. Reed led the squad to its first championship with four early points in that game despite playing little the rest of the way.
Reed was born in Hico, Louisiana, in 1942 and attended college there before helping Grambling State win the 1961 NAIA championship. At 6’9″, he was viewed as an undersized centre, but clubs quickly realised he played much bigger than that as he went on to win the 1965 Rookie of the Year title.
Reed averaged 18.7 points, and 12.9 rebounds throughout his career, and the Knicks retired his No. 19 in honour of him. In 1982, he was chosen for the Hall of Fame.
