Scion of Powerful Legal Dynasty, Alex Mardaugh, Shot in Head

Following the murder of his wife and son in June, 53-year old Alex Mardaugh was also shot in the head on his way to Charleston at 2:50 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, police and law enforcement officials said. Alex Mardaughis the scion of a powerful South Carolina legal dynasty.

According to reports, Alex had called his brother, Randy, and told him about the shooting incident that involved him and his family.

Jim Griffin said that Alex had car trouble during his trip. When he stopped to change his tire, shots were fired at him. The suspects, according to Griffin, were driving a truck near an old Salkehatchie Road in Hampton County. The truck reportedly passed by Alex while shooting, then the suspects circled back to continue firing at him.

Griffin also said that Mardaugh was airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital where he is being treated.

Reports also said that Randy Mardaugh, Alex’s brother, was not allowed to enter the hospital because of Covid-19 restrictions. He did say that he was able to talk to Alex before he was wheeled in, which is an “encouraging sign.”

Not many details of Alex’s shooting incident were available currently.
